How long would aluminized offroad pipe last/which is best fitting?

Well after much debating I am considering an aluminized ORP. Looking for a pipe that doesn't come in a bunch of sections like I heard stainless works does and want one that will fit right the first time and bolt right in? ALso my concern of aluminized is how long will it last with the car only driven in summers never seeing road salt? Or should I just get the stainless works pipe and struggle with it and get it to work? Cheapest aluminzed ORP out there that fits is???

Your sig says you plan on shorty headers, what type? Most shorties come with a Ypipe so I'm wondering why your looking at buying just a Ypipe.

Im not totally positive on shorties yet...... maybe not for a few years i wouldn't get them. What are your opinions and best priced Y pipe which will last 6 years at least.

IMHO you should just save the money for "furher down the road" and do a single cat conversion like was just discussed in this thread http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...hreadid=218997 . There are midlengths available for single cat setups that are better designs than the dual cat shorties available. I think a Y pipe will give you minimal gains and you'll end up replaceing it with headers in the long run and waste money. EDIT* assuming MN doesn't have emmisions that would catch that.

I just noticed that you've gotten SEVERAL peoples opinions on Ypipes in other posts. I don't have any first hand experience with them so can't recommend one to you or give you any info better than what you've already gotten. I was replying to make sure that you realized with most(all?) shorty headers you don't have to buy a seperate ypipe.

SHould be that hard, I wasn't asking for people to tell me to do this and not this.... Im goin with the Y pipe alright now? SO whats a good one out there for the money and where to find it?

The best one would be custom made.If you can find a shop to do it.It would be wiser to do headers and y at the same time as Brent said...

Custom made is not an option around here. The shops can't mandrel bend, only crease the pipe to bend it. And the worst part too is they can only bend 2.5" pipe. Need an aftermarket one. There must be a good fitting aluminized one............

The ONLY mass production off road y-pipe for 96-97 f-bodies that i know of the is the Stainless Works unit. As to how well aluminized will last, the Hooker catback I had on my 95 was still going strong when I sold the car and the catback had been on there for four years. The car was a daily driver and had been through a couple of Atlanta winters and a couple of Oklahoma winters and didn't show much rust at all. As to the fit of the Stainless Works unit, I've heard it is ok. I'm actually planning on trying one in the next few months myself. For $199 you just can't beat it, and you should always be able to sell it for at least half that if you ever decide to go with headers.
