How long to install Timming Chain?

about how long does it take to install a timming chain on an LT1 engine? I think I am going to go ahead and replace mine. I have had this GM chain/sprockets for like a year now and just haven't done it. I have 125k on this chain.

I'm not really that fast so shoot on the high side

Really shouldn't take more than an afternoon. Just keep in mind you have to take the AIR pump, water pump, opti, crank pulley, and crank hub out to get the timing cover off. After that it's a matter of R&R and get it back together. You're going to have to loosen most of the oil pan bolts as well to get the timing cover out. Most likely you'll rip the oil pan gasket, so just cut it clean and use RTV at the joint before you put it all back together.

Why not throw a cam in it while you're there, 50% of the work is getting all the crap off the front of the car lol

I know, don't temp me

I think that's why i haven't done it yet. I have yet to make a pass with the new nitrous I put on this winter. I was thinking maybe I will make a few passes and then late in the season right before winter throw a cam and change the timming chain in, just incase I spin a bearing, I would only be down a little while and then winter would be here.

I still am undecided. Right now my goal is 11's. If I can't get there with nitrous than I will throw a hot cam in. Just thinking the hot cam really isn't going to gain me too much.

What?? I went 12.28 @ 110. I had bigger valves put in the heads and them gasket matched, but other than that, it was just boltons. With a 100 shot, I went 11.33 @ 118. The only other "small" cam I would go with would be the crane227 or whatever it's called.

you just had larger valves put in....lol that is a huge differenence.

How much HP do you think a Hot Cam will gain me without opening up the heads at all or new valves. IMO maybe 20rwhp. I just don't know if I want to risk spinning a bearing for that kindof gain.
