it will take you longer to drain and fill the coolant than change the pump
6 bolts on the pump plus electrical connection
4 or 5 hoses 2 big 2 or 3 small
scrape the gaskets
transfer the senseor from the old to new pump
put on the pump
put on the hoses
fill with coolant
hook up the sensor
bleed air

Should take you about an hour if you are handy with tools

Honestly about a day.

Only annoying things are... Catching all the drained coolant, removing the Fan's.. .and getting the Air pump off..... other than that it's simple.. but I let mine sit overnight to let the gaskets and silicon and all dry completely...

Re: how long does it take to change the water pump?

You should only be underneatht eh car unbolting/bolting the water pump for like 20 minutes. Most of your time will be jacking the car/draining coolant/refilling coolant and bleeding. There are only 6 bolts on the water pump (one is a stud). Also you need to remove the air pump and bracket which is another 6 bolts total (3 in the air pump, 2 on the bracket, and one where the flang from the EGR air tube runs and connects to the bracket). Removing all these bolts and unhooking all the hoses to the water pump took me about 10 minutes the other day. Then ti took about another 15 inutes to hook it all back up. I also removed my fan shroud for added room to work...that's another 60 seconds of work give or take.

EDIT: Oh yah, since i take it this is your first time taking off the water pump just a little warning. If you are unbolting the water pump from under the car (i prefer to do it that way) be prepared for coolant to come spilling out when taking the water pump bolts off so watch your eyes ). It's also a good idea IMO to cover up your opti and keep it from getting drenched.
