How long for a cam install?
Re: How long for a cam install?
If you stay on it you could be done and driving it in about 3 to 4 days. If you know what you're doing you could be done in 2 days. You don't have to pull the motor for this. See pics in my sig on page 6. I just finished the job.
Re: How long for a cam install?
Give yourself a week to do the job so you are not rushed. This will also
allow some time for those surprises, like pressing on and off the water
pump gear for the LT4 ED timing set.

Re: How long for a cam install?
Just wanted to let you know...
There is an inordinately large number of engine failures after a cam swap on LTx engines.
As far as I know, nobody has pinned down the exact risks involved, but the consensus seems to be that the cam driven water pump puts an unusual stress on the front bearing that creates a wear pattern that must be maintained or bearing failure occurs.
Just something you should be aware of.

Re: How long for a cam install?
From what I have seen and been told, the majority of the time it's either TOO MUCH DIRT entering the engine during the install, or OVER-REVVING the engine. Even though the cam you install might be able to handle 7,000 rpm's, your stock bearings can't.

Probably looking at around 15 to 18 hours, so in most of the states at between 55-75/hr your are looking at a min of around $800 in labor. On the other hand if you are in Arkansas, about $12.00 including the parts.
