how to know i'm picking false knock?
how to know i'm picking false knock?
When i have my cutout on, i feel like car doesnt have the power it should... i'm thinking it might be picking up false knock (i heard cutouts give bad false knock on lt km) so how will i know i'm picking false knock? low trap?
and whats the diff between a knock sensor, and a knock module?

Log a run with datamaster or some type of logging program to see if you are getting knock.. The cutout will make you lose torque if you dont have alot of mods.... that will make you feel slower.............

The knock sensor is what picks up vibrations that could be interpreted as knock, and the knock module is a digital filter that interprets the vibrations as knock.
The only way to really know, is to scan the car with the cutout closed and see what the knock count is; then scan the car with the cutout open and see if the count is a lot more.
The knock sensor is a thick round disc that screws into the block and acts like a microphone. When detonation occurs, the knock sensor sends a signal to the knock module (KM), which in turns tells the PCM, which then pulls timing (and maybe does other things too?) to stop the detonation from occuring.
The Knock sensor is located in the block on the passenger's side and the knock module is located in the PCM (PCM is also on the passenger's side under the cowl).
Thomas.
edit: I just realized you have a V6, so my locations may not be correct

You can scan it with it open and closed. You may be have knock either way. You may just have more with the cutout open. If you throw some 100 octane in there and you still have knock then you know for sure that it is false.
