You buy an MSD #8877 harness (for 96-97 single connector coils) and plug it in between the coil and 6A. It's as simple as that. Finding a place to mount the unit is usually the hardest part.

I think you can go to MSD's site and they have a how-to, you don't need the connector it just keeps you from having to splice a few wires. I put mine on the front of the drivers wheel well under the fuse box.

Using the harness is by far the best way to do it and allows you to test or go back to stock in a matter of minutes. No hacking up of any wires is needed.

Re: How to install MSD 6A on 96 LT1

I mounted mine on the drivers side fender (underhood of course) just above the fuse/relay box there. I ran the ground to the ground point for the harness next to the radiator on the radiator support and I ran a power line through the firewall grommet below the brake booster and plugged the power (with an inline fuse) to the ign power source on the fuse box. If you buy the harness that Shoebox referenced the other wires are plug and play. I would though recomend putting some heat shrink over the wire connections between the MSD and the adapter harness, over time those connection corrode.

I spliced a LARGER diameter wire onto the hot wire and ran it from the MSD (mounted on the drivers side (I have SS so there is room where the intake air used to enter) and connected it to the little red hot box on the passenger side fender. You can run it under the radiator cover to get it out of sight.

I put all my loose running wires in that plastic wire protectors ( the kind you just coil around the wires). Getting a good ground is essential; preferably to the block, but not really necessary.

Good idea to mount the box where it can get some fresh air to keepl it cool. JMHO

8876 is for the older 94-95 years, 8877 is for the 96-97 years

Exactly. You [hybridliferemixx] said you had a 1996.

hybridliferemixx, you can verify all this stuff by going to the MSD website.
