How hard is it to replace the slave cylinder???

I've hard SLP recalled the slave cylinder, not sure if it's true or not. Right now the clutch doesn't engage until the very top of the travel and has been getting worse.

Are we correct in thinking that this is what's to blame? The clutch should be just fine.

And how difficult is it to get it?

Thanks,
Steve

Replacing the slave cylinder is very easy. I replaced mine a few months ago. Do a search using the key word slave cylinder. Someone posted a link to a web site that had very detailed instructions on how to replace it.

I'm confused, did SS's come with a special SLP slave cylinder or something? I've never heard that. I thought there was only one slave cylinder for the LT1/T56. Anyway, it very easy to remove, just two bolts hold it to the bellhousing and it has a braided hydraulic line fitting running to it, it's on the driver side of the trans. If that was bad it certainly could cause the problem you are having

Hardest part is getting it out, I found it easier to move the master cylinder to get to it.

Just picked up the parts from Chevy and to my suprise, they gave me everying from the resivior to the slave. That's fine, doesn't look hard, but how do you bleed this sucker once it's in the car? I don't see any bleed valves. Looks like you fill it up and you're done, but that can't be.

So what's the secret?

The only hard part is getting the U-bolt back in place that mounts the pedal rod interface.

To just replace the slave? All you have to do is remove the 2 nuts holding it on (13mm) then push out the little pin that holds it to the metal hose that goes up to the master. 20 minutes tops to remove the slave. From what your talking about is if you wanted to remove the slave and master cylinder.

Yeah I have to replace both the slave and the master. I also did find out how to bleed it.

Thanks guys. I'll let you know if I have any problems.

If you got the master/slave assembly from GM, then it is pre-bled.

Replacing just the slave is very easy. Hardest part is punching the pin out.

Alright, 1st attempt failed. You are right, the slave just came right off, but then came the MC...

I could not get either the pin or the clip off the pushrod. Is that the pin you guys are talking about?

Also, lets say I do get this off, how do you pull the MC out? It looks like the studs are connected. And once I get everything off, how am I going to get it all back together? Just by feel?

Looks like the assembly I got is pre bled also...that's a good thing.

Let me know. Maybe I'll try again tomorrow.

Thanks,
Steve

Shouldn't be that difficult....you should take the two nuts out of the bellhousing holding the slave cylinder on....then go to your clutch pedal....there should be some kind of clip holding it to your clutch pedal.....take it loose then there should be two bolts holding it to the firewall of the car.....take them loose and pull the resevior (sp) out and everything with it..Then just do the opposite to put it back in......Good luck tomorrow

My problem was I couldn't see anything. As far as the clip on the pushrod, did you just take it off by feel?
