How hard to launch car with a street twin?
How hard to launch car with a street twin?
Ok here is the deal. I need a good reliable clutch. I just got done taking out my 2 week old SLP set up. Something is either wrong with the stock flywheel (had it turned) or the new pressure plate. Either way i am replacing both so i don't have to take my tranny out again.
Now my car is a predominately street car. May go to the track a couple times a year. I have a 10 bolt that i wil be putting some 3.73's in soon. I won't run on anything more than drag radials.
When i launch the car i kinda feather the gas while i slip the clutch a little till i am moving fast enough that spinning is not a problem. Not exactly best for the clutch but effective.
I have heard that you can't slip the Street twin at all. I have heard people say it's not even worth getting the street twin unless you have a 12 bolt and slicks. How true is this. I want somehting i can launch on the street somewhat decently.
My other choice for my power level is a Spec stage III which i have also heard you can't slip. I won't have a 12 bolt for some time. So would i just be wasting my money buying a Street Twin?
Thanks
Shawn

Wondering the same thing here. My clutch went out a little while ago so I put her up for the winter to do some work. Still debating between the Spec III or the Mcleod. Heard the Mcleod is way better, but also way more $$$$$ Think I am going to go with the Mcleod because I would rather spend the extra green if it means I'll get the better clutch setup! I also have the 10-bolt and am getting ready to go to 3.73s.
The street twin is a no slip clutch, but on the street you can find a VERY fine line to feather it out and keep is smooth. On the tract, your times will be hurt by the inability to get a good short time unless you're on slicks. It's actually pretty nice for street driving though.
And if you beat on it, you're going to break something/anything behind that clutch. It's a monster.

well really i am not too hard on my car. It seems that if you want to launch with this clutch the only way to do it is hard. Which in turn breaks the tires loose or if they have traction breaks drivetrain parts.
Sucks too because that seems to be the only good 100% reliable clutch out there. It is way overkill but relialbe. I just cant be breaking tranny's driveshafts and rear ends all the time.
Guess i will get me a spec or mcleod performance disk and throw my SLP pressure plate on it and go again. Think my flywheel is what caused the problems with it the first time.
Thanks
