how good is the stock lt1 manifold

i have a couple questions that maybe u guys can answer...here is what i have if it makes a difference 95 caprice lt1 with completely stock block and heads..headers, exhausts, and tranny work and i run high 13's ...i do plan on doing LE2 heads and cam with a 383 rotation assemble.

1. At what point does the stock intake limit u??...can u see gains from a stock motor? and is it a most at higher hp levels?

2. I'm really good at welding steel which i do everyday and like making parts and buying what i need soon to start welding aluminum. Has anyone tried making bigger runners for the intake or modified it in anyway?

3. How about converting to a single plane for out lt1 motors??...what needs to be done??...where do i get the rails?? maybe i can use stock rails and stock tb if i can make the adapter to hook it up.

its not a DD car so i dont mind downtime

welcome to the board , do a search and you will find many threads with lot of great info on all your questions. just a side note aguy is running a solid roller 355 with a LT1 intake that has had some work done to it. made 490's, corrected, to the ground.

good enough for aftermarket companies to know better than to try to produce different ones and plan on making a profit

u think a company like edlbrock would consider selling or loaning their intake to someone and doing a dyno before and after the install to see what kinda numbers they come up with? i';m guessing not but it might be worth a try

I really doubt they would loan them out to the general public for before/after dyno testing. Afterall, they will probably want this thing to be tested on their own dyno and set the conditions just right so this manifold automatically adds a magical 20hp to the wheels. Its all about marketing.

They have released some info, some reports of 3hp another of a whopping 7hp. The ONLY reason it might ever see the light of day is the discontinuation of the LT4 intake caused a big stir despite the fact that intake was not an upgrade for an LT1 anyway. It did bring a lot of attention to the topic though which they want to capitolize on.

Far as the single plane, IMO do not bother, the LT1 intake works very well for those who actually try to make it work rather than dimissing it before giving it a chance, put the money elsewhere.
