is this manifold restrictive at a certain point? it seems like it would work like a mini ram

I have heard that no one makes an LT1 intake manifold because they work so well there is little to improve. Try a search in the advanced tech section, I remember a thread in there a little while ago about the LT1 intake manifold.

 

There are no other (affordable) alternative LT1 manifolds, because the stocker flows so well to begin with. Your next step up would be a Hogans custom manifold, but that runs in excess of $2,000 easy.
