How to go Faster?

Hey guys I have a 95 A4 Z28 with 85,xxx miles on it. It is completely stock right now. I am looking for bolt ons and mods that are the best band for the buck in order to get me down into the low 13's and high 12's. What would you guys use for parts and what brands. I am not looking to spend a ton of money on things like cams and heads so shot me your thoughts on the subject. Also I know I need gears since I have the 2.73's right now. All help is appreciated.

Yeah that crossed my mind but I think I am going to wait till winter when I build up the motor. Really don't want to see this motor blow up during the summer when it is nice out. Anyone else have a thought or list of mods?

the start for any build up is going to be the same:

free flowing intake, either something like a K&N, morosso etc or eles a "home-made" one.

then you'll need some headers and a decent cat back to get a free flowing exhaust. long tubes will give the most power and any cat back should give decent gains.

beyond that you have to get the car to hook up. so you'll need some traction mods like lower control arms, relocation brackets and some good sticky tires.

just look around the board and you'll see what people are using for mods. and ask specific questions about them.

also become familiar with the "search" button...very helpful since a given topic is discussed many times

I highly recommend tires before modding the suspension.

Also try and keep your overall goals for the car in mind as you assemble a list of mods and the sequence of installation.

CAI and headers will most likely be two of your most cost effective mods (better power and better gas mileage). If your goals are LOTS of power go for some long tube headers up front and have them coated so they will last a long time. If you want short term and cheap go for untreated shorties but be aware they will look like absolute crap in just a few weeks although they will still provide a significant improvement over stock.

Start a piggy bank because if you start going to the track on a regular basis, and start to get traction, the rear end is a know weak spot.

ya guys, thanks for the help. i was thinking headers and everyone seems to agree that long tube headers are the best way to go if you are going to buy any header. i know that coating is going to be a must b/c i have seen too many headers that are uncoated and look like crap. a tire sounds good and do you guys think bfg's are better than nittos? also the rear i know is weak but with bolt on mods and a tire is a rear end support a good option or should i just save the money on one of those and buy a 12 bolt when the 10 bolt goes out?

I guess NOS is going to be the best for you, the NX Kits are good.

Remember: The more money you spend now, the less you'll spend later. Spent less money now, and spend alot more later.

The NOS is going to slowing distory your engien.

Thanks guys I might keep my eyes out for an NX system then on the for sale board and when the motor goes I guess that would be a better time to rebuild it. LOL.
