How to get more top end? And Heads Question!
How to get more top end? And Heads Question!
Hey guy, I was just wondering how can you get some of our power in the top end? I want it to have simular power to an ls1 but i don't want to lose all of my low end.
All that makes the ls1 have so much top end is the heads right?
So my question is.
I am doing Long tube headers sometime next weekend hopefully. So my friends dad works at a shop and does porting on the side and what not and said he had some heads that were already ported and polished laying around at the shop and said that he was sure that we could work out a deal on them or he might be able to port my heads for me.
What kind of power would i see from my headers and then the heads ( look in sig for the hp/tq i'm making now) Also will the headers and the heads add to the top end or will the heads not really help me since i won't have a cam yet?
As of right now when me and my friend race from a 20 or 30 roll no one pulls at all to 80 and at 80 he just starts walking away.

Well these heads he speaks of, are they LT1? If not I dont think you want to use them. Although ported LT1 heads would be nice to have for when you do a cam.
The Longtubes will get you alot of extra power, mine improved top end power by quite alot. Another thing you might want to consider would be 1.6 RR, like GMPP's or Comp Cam Pro Mags. Those are generally good for 7-15rwhp. The longtubes generally 15-30rwhp. I dont like to add up HP like this but I'd say with the longtubes you should be close to 300rwhp/ 315tq, and the 1.6's would get you even closer if not just over. Dont forget electric WP if you dare and obviously a cam. Depending on your wants and needs select a cam right for you and your car.

If you can get the heads done for really cheap and if they give good flow numbers (around 240ish intake on stock valves), you'll get probably 20hp out of them on the stock cam. But I would make sure and get LT's first. That and if you go with X piped true duals, that whole exhaust upgrade will really wake your car up and put you right around where a stock LS1 A4 will run.
