You could use a puller. I tried that when putting my pulley on to take the balancer off. It didn't work so I just put a metal bar I had laying around behind it and rested it on the sway bar and pushed it with my foot kind of wedging it off and it loosend up and came off.

I have no sway bar in the front ne more so that kinda rules out that option, but i am in wonder as to how a puller works...

does it cling to the sides of the pully and a shaft that is threaded with a bolt on the end get tightened and pushes against the hub to pull it off? am i close to thinking how it works?

I believe you would still need to use this kind of puller and just put it around the pulley. Because if you bolt into the pulley you are pulling the whole hub off.
