how to get 400 rwhp ?

I have 95 TA conv with 6speed. Only mods are edelbroc headers , gutted cats and k&n filter in stock air box. I've priced some head work, cam , rocker package but for $3600 Canadian seems pretty expensive for 50 to 70 hp. Engine run great and don't mind doing head and cam work. I see most posting are now about the big cubes, not so much on superchargeing. Wouldn't supercharging be the easiest way to make 400+hp, or is this to hard on stock engine?
Thanks ..Caper

Its VERY hard on a stock motor...

Expect a rebuild, plan for a rebuild, you WILL rebuild it

Heads and cam is much easier on the car then a blower, and besides... who wants a blower on a stock heads and cam car?? (well, of course we do, but still, hehe)

Sure it'll give you the 100 odd horse power, but its all the better with the benefit of the better flowing heads, and a cam to take advantage of the specific power band...

decisions decisions!! Either way its a fair chunk of change...

Is everything else up to par to handle the power? Tranny, rear-end etc...?

I'm all up for doing supporting mods first, the cheaper stuff... suspension, tranny, rear-end, brakes, driveshaft, etc... Then bolt on the big power adders and not worry about blowing up some other part every other week

Good flowing heads, preferable LT4's or AFR's and a medium to good sized hydraulic roller, along with all bolt ons ofcourse...

OMG, you'll never do it, ts not possible even though its been like 100x already.

Jeff Collop was making 390 with 100K+ mile his six speed, home ported heads and a used Cc306 cam. Only other mods were LTs and a electric water pump.

Kevin Herbert aka Slim was making 380rwhp with an Auto All he had was a off the shelf X.E cam and Stage II IRS LT1 Heads, the headers were regual Hooker LTs.

With a six speed 400rwhp is not a hard mark to make, alls it take is Tunning, Long Tubes, the right cam and some well ported heads.

96Z is right, the heads he sugested are great for a heads cam set up and motor set up if you decide to do so. We got a guy making awesome power of a 224 cam on th 93 message boards. Well ported LT1 heads can make 400rwhp with the righ cam.

Good Luck

damn, my housemate made 390+ on his 02 WS6 with a Lid, Exhuast, headers, and LS1 hotcam.

Kinda dissapointing for the amount of work you need on an LT1 to reach that

Your mods + NX 150 shot = 400RWH +. That's if you want to go the power adder route.

My buddy has two failry nasty Ls1 cars, ones a C5 the other TA, the TA has a motor in it. The hes been around this for a while and he was telling me once you get a well built blower LT1 in the mid 6 range to the wheels, your going to make a nasty car that can run on a lot of the cars out there.

It is disapointing to see how the newer LS1's can make 400 rwhp so easily compared to us...

But thats life Newer technology is a wonderful thing

They start from the factory with 50 rwhp on us... Most LT1's are dyno'ing 240-250 stock! And LS1's are going 310ish, maybe more for some!

Its ok, i still love my 95 Z and its LT1

Ditto this. It's the easiest way, I think.

Heck, if you have all basic mods you'd be near 300rwhp N/A, so a 100-shot would get you to 400rwhp, and tons more torque.

Thats a dyno of a bolton lt1, then with a 150 shot of juice. More then 400rwhp, and the rwtq is insane!! It's all about the torque anyway

sryy to bring this up but i was just looking around on google and saw this old post and it said ls1's are puttin down like 310 to the wheels from jeffk95z and lt1s are putting down 240 250 rwhp??? lets not get confused my 93 z beat a 2001 trans am that was stock to stock auto to auto and my car had 140,000 miles on it compared to his 80,000 miles. but the dyno numbers in the real world are like 280ish for the LT1 compared to the ls1 that is more like 290 wrhp to be exact and the torque numbers are roughly give or take a few ft/lbs 310ftlbs go to ws6.com for stock dyno numbers and i will find the dyno sheet that has the 2 ls1 dynos that i saw that had a 1999 corvette dyno 305wrhp/305 tq and a 2000 trans am dyno 290wrhp/310 ftlbs. so dont try and stretch the horspower numbers LS1 guys cause its about even and sumtimes the lt1 will beat ya stock for stock

also sry if im not punctual im in a hurry for work

Ditto! LT1s are still amazing, even if it does seem like the LS1s have more space.
