How fast would you say?

I just bought a 1996 camaro, and i was wondering if any of you could tell me what i should be expecting to run in the 1/4 mile. Its a z28 SLP SS and has all SLP options.

On a differen't note, i wan to make it faster, what are the best mods for buck? I ordered K&N, it has 3 inch cat back. i was thinking headers, maybe high-flow cats, throttle body, throttle body by-pass and airfoil. Tel me what you guys have done, or just any idea's.

Re: How fast would you say?

haha i thought this was gonna be one of those tongue twisters J/K

but anyway is it an auto or 6speed ?
i think with an auto youd be lookin at high 13's with a 6speed id say 14 flat because since you just got it you prolly arnt used to driving it let alone launching it but if you get a launch down with the 6speed id say mid to high 13's as well

as for mods honest ly the best mod ive done so far as for SOTP feel is my MSD 6A, blaster coil and new plugs and wires i was very impressed with them

Re: How fast would you say?

13.8 - 13.9 area seem to be respectable times for stock lt1's. My heavy vert went 13.99 with just catback.

Re: How fast would you say?

depending on where you live(altitude)..sea level should see a 13.8-14.1,as far as mods do all the free mods they work.as far as other mods, they will depend on your intensions for the car.since there are many people on this very knowledgable board you can look at many peoples sigs to see there mods i am sure you will see the levels you wish to acheive pm them to find out if they are satisfied with their mods, would they have changed anything etc.

the new plugs and wires will help to make sure your cars in a good running state and the MSD box and blaster coil give you a very beefy spark
right now i got that stuff and CAI and UD pulleys and the ignition stuff is what i have been most pleased with and especially for the money i paid for it
another good step would be some shorty headers or some long tubes if you wana change up the exhaust a bit
and since its a M6 maybe a short throw shifter ....wait the SS came with short throw right?? but if not then short throw and if ya really wanna go crazy maybe some 1.6 rockers

Re: How fast would you say?

Maybe it has the "cone of silence" on it. Has skip shift been disabled?

Dual Cats? Hurst Shift? Balanced Drive Shaft?

Helps to know the history of any mods, etc. including what options did it actually come with.

Re: How fast would you say?

Friend of mine had a 96 SS t-top M6, best stone stock pass was a 13.8 @ 102...however the car did respond very well with a 100 shot (TNT wet kit), with a best pass of 12.4 @ 114 w/ a 2.0/60 ft. on some stickier than stock sumitomo tires...but he also went through 3 rearends in it.

Re: How fast would you say?

Drive shafts on 96 and older may experience vibration and require replacement with 1 LE DS or LS 1 Alum. DS.

If you have two on the left (tail pipes) there may be a cone (metal sleeve in the exhaust pipe just before the muffler to quiet it down. This, of course may be a restriction.

If you have RAM AIR and are talking about a K & N filter (they don't make one specally for your car).

your right they don't, but i bought one that fit.. i got the part number from some other guy with a ram air. and it has flowmaster cat-back so it no longer has the single or dual tail pipes, and that viberation yuo talk about sounds very familiar, at low rpms i can feel my shifter kind of shake a little bit, and u can hear a little rattle.
