How does the Oil pressure sending unit work??

How does the Oil pressure sending unit work on my 93' Z. I had a nasty oil leak and I diagnosed the problem and found oil coming out the oil sending unit. Now my question is, how does the oil pressure sending unit work, along with how that little boot connector that fits over the sending unit, how does that give a signal to the guage for the correct signal? If anyone has pictures or price quotes on the oil pressure sending unit that would be great as well...thank you

As pressure increases the resistance fed to the sensor electrical connector does too. The gauge then reacts to the resistance and displays a reading.

1993 oil pressure sending unit GM p/n 24575127, ~$25 wholesale. You should also be able to get a replacement sensor from a local auto supply.
