how does this cam converter combo look to you
What do you think of this combination going into my car. I am sticking with 3.23 gears for now, but may change to 3.42's later. Yank recomends the SY 3500 for my mods. Is it too high though. It's been awhile since I've checked, but I believe the 210/224 cam runs from about 2000-6000 RPMs. I have seen other with this cam that run a Vig 3200 with nice times. I have also heard that a 3200 Vig is equal to a 3500 Yank converter as the 2800 vig acts more like a 3200 Yank. Is there truth to this. I want a mild cam to match stock heads and am hoping the 3500 Yank will fit in the combination nicely. Any comments are welcome.
Yank SY 3500
3.23 or 3.42 gears

I have a 211/219 cam (accel) in my 383...I matched it with 3.42 gears and a Vigilante 3600 stall retaining the lock up...I don't know much about the Yanks, but I've had the Vigilante in the car for 7 years with no probs at all...and I don't baby the car..it dynoed at 420hp at the wheels...I think you're on target with stall speed, but I would look hard at the Vigilante first...it drives like a factory piece until you hit it, then...wow! I got a solid 5 tenths and 1 mph with mine...good luck...
ABA 383, I would say that you are undercammed and that you could be making lots more power with a better cam choice, but you said you made 420rwhp? What's your secret? That's quite the baby cam for a stroker.

Toegead93, as far as your converter selection go over to the LS1 section and look and see which converters those guys are running. Granted, the LS1 likes a different converter than the LT1 cars do, but they are running A LOT of stall speed.

They said zero about street manners but a nearly 5K!

That link should help you finalize your decision. They comment on the 2800 vig as being the most efficient converter on the market. This will help in the MPH department. It's also cheaper than the Yank pieces are too. Their acutal as tested stalls are shown too.
If you're worried about the stall I'd run a 2800 and not worry about a thing. If you are not worried I'd go with the 3200 vigilante. Also check this out

There's some information on stall torque ratio.
Do a lot of research before you purchase is the best info I can offer.
I can also tell you one thing, I'm not very happy with my B&M, but I got what I paid for. I have NEVER once heard someone say they were not happy with their vigilante though.

John Lingenfelter himself built the 383 back in 1995. I, too thought the cam was a little small, but it runs like hell. I think its because its got relatively small valves 2.00 int 1.56 exh..with 11:1 comp (runs on pump gas) the air is really movin'...no tricks, just solid power and huge torque...the car weighs 3460 with driver and runs 118ish mph at the track, been running this way for 8 years w/o even valve covers off...I can't explain it either...
