How do you think I did??

I went to an 1/8th mile track today. It was my first time ever so be gentle with my reaction times. How do you guys think I did compared to the mods I have????

Best run of the night, it was my first run also.

Reaction: +.650
60 ft: 1.927
330 ft: 5.637
594ft: 8.197
1/8 E.T.: 8.768
1/8 MPH: 78.79

Next to best run of the night.

Reaction: +.440
60 ft: 1.952
330 ft: 5.672
594ft: 8.233
1/8 E.T.: 8.804
1/8 MPH: 78.70

Worst run of the night.

Reaction: +.388
60 ft: 2.242
330 ft: 6.015
594ft: 8.593
1/8 E.T.: 9.168
1/8 MPH: 78.23

I would like any information about my runs and what I should do to make them better. I never really knew how to launch a stalled car before. It seemed like the higher rpm i left the line at the slower my time was. My very first run which was my best E.T. i hardly stalled it at all because i wasnt really sure what i was doing at the time. Then as the night went on and i started to get the hang of it i was I was holding the brake and stalling to about 2100 and leaving at that. I am a little confused as to why my 60ft time is real high but my MPH wasnt higher then my best run becuase i thought more spin would mean a higher trap speed? Please correct me if I am wrong. Any information is appreciated. Dustin

Re: How do you think I did??

i wouldn't say you did too well..but i guess not too bad considering it was your first time..i think i could beat some of your 60s with some sticky reeboks, your MPH is down for the mods, try a slick maybe and some cooler weather..although your 1st run u managed a 1.9 60 and still trapped low and didnt run well..has the car been running funny?

Well i do have 2.73 gears which I think is whats holding me back so much. I think maybe i need to have the PCM tuned also.

If I am not mistaken, that 8.76 is pretty close to a 13.5 in the quarter mile. I wouldnt say thats too bad on 2.73's. I have some 3.42's and some 1.6rr's sittin in my bedroon but i dont have the money to put them in. I am also going to get a pcm tune sometime.

Thumbs up Re: How do you think I did??

Found my problem, might be yours? My spped & times where way off last weekend, first time out. Figured it was a fuel problem. So I changed the fuel filter & noticed that there is a bracket "loop" holding 4 steel lines & the plastic fuel line. The damn fuel line was crushed flat where the bracket flat is. I'm suprised that my engine could even turn up 5000 rpm, much less run! Haven't driven the car since the fuel line unflattened it's self. Should be a big difference!

Re: How do you think I did??

HHHMMMm, I just changed my fuel filter about 2 weeks ago and I didnt notice anything wrong under there, I guess i could scope it out one more time. I think maybe my car is running a little rich for some reason. When i turn the car off i can usually smell a pretty strong gas smell. I know my injectors arent leaking or anything. I think I am just going to get the tune done and see if it helps. Like I have said in my other posts, I am expecting a pretty decent gain from swapping gears from the 2.73's. With the computer tune and the roller rockers, I should be pretty close to where I should be. I expect to run close to a 13 flat with the mods I just listed. It sounds tho as if maybe your car was more off then mine judging be your 1/4 E.T.. I multiplied my 1.8th mile E.T. by 1.55 and got 13.578 which I dont think is too bad.

with a tune and gears you should be able to see 12's in the 1/4. with traction of course, I didnt realize that you still have atock pcm settings.

Re: How do you think I did??

Cam is stock and the heads have never been touched. The internals are stock except for the engine being bored to a 357. Gears are stock 2.73 and PCM hasnt been tuned. I wasnt really sure what to expect. I took into consideration that my gears would hold me back alot as well as my PCM may need tuned. 94ZPower gave me some ideas of what i would run with the guesses being 8.75-8.9 and my best run was a 8.76 so I was pretty happy with the results. Anyone else have any input or any numbers in the 1/8 with mods pretty close to mine?

Re: How do you think I did??

just a random question. why did you decide to go with a 357 over, say, a 355?

Re: How do you think I did??

I bought the engine remanufactured from Advanced Auto which buys there engines from Recon (the company that rebuilds them). I am not sure why this one was a 357. I looked insde the spark plug holes and could see numbers on the piston that indicated it had been bored 40 over which would make it a 357.
