How do you pre lube a New Engine?

My engine is almost done.. I have assembly lube on the cam and stuff... But i want to pre lube the engine.

Do you run the drill clockwise so the oil pumps.
What is the adapter piece called that you hook up to the drill to hook up to the pump. Discount auto have it?

Run it for a minute or so until oil starts coming up the pushrods? Spin it with 3 quarts? As fast as the drill can turn too?

With an LT1 you will need to have your intake off the intake and the oil pump drive adapter in the lifter valley. From there you have a couple ways of going. Buy a pump primer shaft from your local auto parts store for about $20, get an old or new oil pump driveshaft for about $5 and weld it to a longer piece of allen or round bar (I have used a Ford 302 hex oil pump driveshaft welded to an old Chevy driveshaft), or get an old distributor and take off the rotor mounting plate and drop the distributor in place. All of the above will work but the distributor method is the only one that blocks the opening where the distributor goes therefore giving full pressure to the passenger side of the block.

Also I usually just drop in 5 quarts since it is about ready to run at that stage. Run the drill pretty fast clockwise and you will definitely feel when it starts making real pressure. If possible rotate the engine while priming to make all the parts happy.
