How do you launch w/your 6-speed on slicks?

After my first couple trips to the track w/the ET Streets, I have found I attain my best short times by dumping the clutch at ~ 5000 rpm. I have tried 3k, 4k, 4500 etc. and the car just wants to bog. I know I'm not making much power - so how are you guys cutting 1.6 - 1.7 60' with minor mods? Are you revving it up high and dropping the clutch or are you using the clutch to keep the rpms up and not launching as hard..? BTW, I'm on 16 x 10.50" ET Streets, SLP PP & disc (basically stock) and the stock 10-bolt.

Heres a video of me launching - 5k seems a little extreme for only a 1.87 60'.

WOW! That's what I want to do! I dont have the guts. I fear my car will come home on a trailer. You do that with the 10 bolt? How often do you do this. Anything else to strenthen the rear? I'm looking into this cuz I wont splurge for the 12 bolt till i have too. Oh, I dont have an answer for your question, just wanted to say wow.

i have left as high as 5800.. Noticed nothing but wheel spin. Got no better times w/ going high.. Although it does make for good pictures.. well in a little experiment i did back in nov. My car with a race weight of 3811lbs i was leaving at 4K and up all day long.. Running 12.90's and 13.0's.. but then for one of my last run's i tried slipping it out at 2800 and sorta rolling it out well the 60ft was only a 1.88 BUT.. The time i usually loose while the car pulls up the nose.. was no longer lost cause it didn't come up as high and i applied the power more gradually and was rewarded with a 12.78 at the big end is where it really counts.. I wanted to try 3200 ish but.. i figured.. i'd end it w/ a drive home under its own power.. For driveline mods.. I have a street twin , stock steel driveshaft (twisted the splines again) during one of those run's.. and a moser 9" w/ 3.70's. I like you would love some 1.6's and 1.7's hell i'll settle for a 1.80... But. think i need to drop some pounds in the car first.. I have just recently upgraded to 4.11's and a locker.. So.. things should get interesting this season.. any other inputs??? I'm listening....

It's hard to get much better than low 1.8X if your car is at full weight. Mine is at about 3750 race weight and I'm in the 1.8 range most of the time. I have one or two high 1.7x's but that's rare. In the summer I have to drop my pressure to about 9.5 # to keep from blowing the tires off and my 60's will end up in the high 1.8X's. I've tried everything from 3000 RPM to pegged on the rev limiter at 6400 and there is just too much mass. I even went to 27" tall Hoosier QT Pros and they hooked so hard all I got was bog until I finally twisted off the output shaft This year I'll be adding some ponys so maybe the 1.7 60's will start to come my way. I'm definately envious of thos A3 guys with high stall converters. A 1.5 or 1.6 60's would feel awesome!

Thumbs up

On slicks... Or ET Streets for that matter - I launch as high as the track will hold... Has been as high as 7k on m 28x10.5 ET Drags.. And normally right @ 6k w/ 26" tall ET Streets...

Best 60' on the 28's has been a 1.58. On the 26's... A 1.61...

I'll also run on DR's just because they actually work decent enough. 255/50/16 BFG Dr's.. 12 psi - leave @ 4K.. Best 60' 1.71.. <- this was w/ the stock rear and 3.42's.. broke it on the 2nd pass. DOH! W/ my 12 bolt - best there to is in the low 1.7 range on DR's.

PS - stock suspension.. Just have an airbag in the right rear. Haven't used it yet though. Gonna try it out this w/e.. Along w/ pulling off my front sway bar.
