How do I remove oil pan while engine is still in the car?

I'm in the middle of install my Hot Cam Kit and I got the timing cover off and the fron oil pan seal is looking a little ragged up in the front corners. I'm assuming that the oil pan gasket is one piece all the way around. If that's the case, what's involved in removing the the oil pan from the engine with it still in the car. It look like there's just enough feee space to get it out and clear. Do I just unbolt the pan and it should drop right out?

Unless you ripped the pan gasket when removing the timing cover I wouldn't recommend trying to replace it. Just use some sealant when you put it back together. To replace the oil pan gasket you have to unmount the engine and raise it slightly with a jack. To loosen the pan you'll probably have to move the oil cooler lines out of the way. Even then it is pretty tight to get the gasket in. About a week after I replaced mine my AC developed a leak, no doubt due to moving the engine around a couple inches.

Put a jack under the pan and raise it up just to where it will hold the engine.

Remove the two engine mount bolts

Jack the motor up and wedge some wood blocks between the engine and the cross member

Remove the oil pan drain plug and the oil level sensor

Remove the pan bolts and drop it down. If it interferes with the crank, you will have to turn the motor over by hand until it clears.

I just removed all the pan bolts and the pan dropped about 3 inches. Enough room for me to replace my gasket. No big deal.
Didn't jack motor or anything like that. 30 min job. I have a pic of the felpro replacement installed in the link below.

I just did the same thing myself Saturday. I thought I was going to have to raise the engine and remove the pan, but there's a real easy fix to that problem.
