How do I know if my intake manifold is leaking?

Hey guys, my '94 Z is beginning to leak quite a bit of oil. I would estimate that I lose about 1.5 quarts of oil every 3,000 miles. Also, the underside of my car is covered with the leaking oil. I have no idea where the oil is leaking from, but I am worried that it might be the notorious intake manifold leak. If it is leaking from the intake manifold, how would I be able to tell that it is? Also, would you guys be able to tell me where the other common places our LT1's usually leak from? Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Take a paper towel and rub it along the back of the intake and see if anything comes off. Its not as bad fixing as it looks, did one over the weekend for the first time, out in about an hour. Can have it out cleaned up and back in in probably 2 1/2 - 3 hours. Alot of people have leaks along the front of the oil pan, did that over the weekend too PITA!!

Check this...

I know this is odd...but I can attest it happening cuz it happend to me. Check your oil pressure sending unit, if its cracked or bad or anything, oil can gush out of it, and The problem with 1.5 quartz every 3k miles sounds about the same as I was losing when this problem occurred, just something to think about.

You have no idea where it is leaking from?! Have you really looked for it?

Try jacking the car up on stands and getting underneath and check it out directly. You should be able to make some basic observations to narrow down the locations for the leak or leaks. There are many places for a SBC to leak from that it is hard for us to pin point it without being there. Some common leaks come from the opil pan, the opti cover or the three gaskets, the intake, a loose oil sensor in the block, the rear main seal, etc. Good luck in tracking it down.

You noticed the clutch slipping under load lately? I have heard of rear main seals leaking and causing the clutch to slip...if the clutch is slipping could be that.
