How do I get my dipstick out?

I'm in the middle of putting on a set of headers and can't figure out how to get the dipstick out. I took the bolt that holds it in place out and now I can't get it out. Thanks for any help.

Joe

Ditto. Such a PITA, I decided I didn't want to do it again. I got a Lokar flexible dipstick tube. Went in without a hitch.

I sanded the the paint/finish on the part of the dipstick tube thats goes down into the bore when I put it back in the first time. It helps.

Do I have to swist it so far to get it to release or is it just jammed in there and need pulling and twisting to get out?

Thanks Joe

Its just jammed in there. The twisting helps it come out a bit. It sticks down in there a ways.

Wear a pair of gloves so when it comes loose you dont bust your knuckle.

It's just a cheap, flemsy tube. Any kinks you put in it, it's a biotch to get it in or out.

Getting it out was pretty simple. After you've unbolted it just get some vice grips, pliers, or Needle noses and just tap it out with a hammer at the supporting end. should take like 3 seconds. getting them back in is tricky. Sande down the tube a bit and lube it with some motor oil and just twist it in. I used my weight and pulled it in using a set of grips.

From underneath, take a long screwdriver and set it on the ridge wher it goes into the block. Then tap it out with a hammer.
But if I did it again, I would just cut it with a tubing cutter, and splice it back together with fuel line and hose clamps. It's been done many times by guys on the board.

I used a socket and a long extention on the bracket where it bolts to the block, hammer it out with the extention it should slide out easily. Going back in I had to cut off a 1" piece because I didn't wanna risk bending it, I've heard they break easily.
