how to change rear spring rubber seats, and what silicone to use?
How to change rear spring rubber seats, and what silicone to use to prevent the spring from moving? My brother’s car developed some clunking in the rear passenger side wheel after fuel pump change; It is not shock or spring, mechanic suggested rear spring rubber seats. I know how to get the shock out, and how remove springs, but I never changed the spring seats yet. Anyone can save me some time
. Also where can I get decent priced rubber seats?

The spring "seats" aren't supposed to be glued in place. The end of the rear spring coil needs to aligned with the seat...if you look at the seat you'll see a "step" where the end of the spring needs to butt against. The seat also has a feature that lines up with a bump on the body.
Re: how to change rear spring rubber seats, and what silicone to use?
I read a post that a spring seat must have some silicone on to prevent the spring from turning on it. I had in mind to use the silicone to keep the spring from turning. Any advice on removing the spring seat?
Re: how to change rear spring rubber seats, and what silicone to use?
The spring seat should just pull off easily once the spring is remove. Most times mine fall off after the spring is out for 10 minutes or so. I've got 146K miles on my Z28 and never had an issue with the springs/seats rotating.

No way silicone could hold a spring from moving. They were probalby just trying to hold the isolator on for easy install. You can do the same thing with 2 small wraps of electrical tape. Nobody will ever see it.
