How Can you tell an Opti is Bad?

I have been having an erratic miss that comes and goes but had been getting worse. I took the Opti out and apart and the Rotor looks fried on one edge and there are slight deposits on the cap. Would this cause a miss? The sensor and wheel look brand new. This Opti only has about 4000 miles on it. Can the sensor be bad and is that the problem on these? I have taken apart Optis before that are completely rusted and still running so I am wondering if should just replace the cap & rotor or the whole unit?

By doing a search for opti on the board and seeing what symptoms people are having. Im too lazy to list them from the top of my head.

Thanks for the replys, I've been having a few of problems listed, Trouble reaching higher revs and poor performance after waring up. So is it the sensor that goes bad? I guess I'll be replacing it.
