How can I test my CSI to make sure it is working??

I thought that if I hooked the power up straight to the battery and had the pump grounded it should start working right? Does the batt. need to be connected? It did not even make a noise or try to work and it's a brand new CSI pump untouched unscratched new in wrapping and box. It can't be messed up I must be doing something wrong. Please enlighten me, thanks.

BTW, I do have a relay and I have everything wired including a status LED I just wanted to make sure the pump worked.

I tested my Meziere before I installed it to make sure it works. I put the hot wire (one with the inline fuse) to the positive battery terminal and grounded the other wire. I wouldn't run it dry too long. And yes, the battery has to be hooked up.

If you touch one wire to pos terminal of battery, and one to negative, it should spin.

you need to hook the ground up or ground the wire coming off the pump to the - terminal to complete the circut.

I used a 30amp relay to run mine when the key is in the "run" postion.

I'm such a dumb head... for some reason I forgot that the ground needs to make it's way back to the battery... that would be kinda hard with the ground disconnected. The pump works fine, thanks fellers.

The install was simple. You just need a grinder to take some material from the inside of the water pump housing to fit the pump. Other than that it's really easy. The Ken Lowrance guide has provisions for plugging the hole. Basically you flatten the inside of the cover so that the area behind the hole for the water pump drive shaft bearing is flat. Then you using two washers and some RTV to seal it with a nut and lock washer. Simple contraption but works well. I used a 3/8 washer on the outside that I shaved down a teeny bit and it fit that hole perfectly.

My pump came with a plug (looks like a small frezze plug) you just tap it in the back of the housing. I used some RTV to make sure it got a good seal.

He said the hole in the timing cover not the water pump housing.
