How can i balance a 383? Also will stock oil pan work?

Well i am in the process of rebuilding my motor. My stock crank is trashed. I would really like to get a Scat 9000 383 crank but have no idea all the details. The crank i am looking at is for 86 and up 1 piece rear mains. It is externally balanced. I will be using stock rods and Speed pro forged pistons. Would i just take the rotating assembly and balancer to my machine shop and have them balance it?

I have heard that the stock oil pan won't fit? i am on a real tight budget and don't have $300 to pay for a canton.

Should i use the stock oil pump? i have heard the HV ones can suck the pan dry.

thanks
Shawn

They will need the flywheel/flexplate to balance it......it is balanced externally to the flywheel....damper is not needed to balance the it.

You can use the stock oilpan but it will need a big hammer mod to allow for clearance.

A stock replacment oil pump will be fine.

Pics of my stock oil pan *massaged* to clear the Scat 9000 crank for my 383.

Pan fit fine on my 383 it was just the windage tray that needed to be bent some. This was on a 94 camaro and an Eagle crank which i don't think makes a difference.
Also I suggest getting it internally balenced, I bought a kit externally and had to get a nice expensive balencing job on it b/c of the mallory metal. Apparently the lt1 is externally back, internally front.
Either way you go about it, it will work but if i had to do it again for my car it would be internally done.
