on SLP dual cat shorties I might add. I'm trying to change the pass. side gasket as it's been leaking. Only problem is that bolt, I got all the rest of em. I dropped the starter to no avail. It's the only bolt that's so close to the header primary that you can't turn a wrench on it either way, there is a spark plug right under it and the oil dipstick infront of it. And please do not tell me to drop the y-pipe because that's not happening. I'm not going throgh all that work to change a mesely stinkin exhaust gasket. I need to have thin *** arms, ehh actually not =)

well i hate to tell you this cause i know you dont want to hear it. if you installed these headers to begin with then you would know that you are gonna have to either remove the y-pipe or the oil dipstick tube to get to that bolt. i personally had to lay across the engine facing the pasenger fender and some how force my arm under there to tighten that bolt a very little amount at a time. Can you get the wrench on the bolt at all? my bolts are so close to the tubes i had to grind down my wrench to get it on most of the bolts. that is why i will never, ever use or install slps POORLY DESIGNED knuckle breakers ever again. and if i have to change a gasket for one im dropping the whole damn motor and tranz before ill wrestle with that **** again......but if i did. i would probably switch them out for long tubes. and leave those shorties on thier dorrstep with a note..... Fun arent they?

tap your brakes dude. there are a lot of tough procedures, it just takes the right tools to make everything easier. Also a little dexterity and a lot of patience. I had the slp's, and they went in fine.

Just figure out a god way to tackle it. I think i did mine from the top. If it is a 12 pt., you may have to chop a box end wrench a little. If its a 6 pt., then maybe find a couple of different brands. Some may work where others cant. And you may have to chop it short too.

And last case, vice grips (buy stage 8's)

Are you using the 12 point 3/8" header bolts that slp supplies in the install kit? If you are then all you need to get at that bolt is a box end offset wrench. The box end part should be offset about a 1/4" or so from the handle. What you actually need to do is flip the wrench so that the handle part is towards the engine (box end towards the pass. side) and get it onto the fastener. Once it's on you can pull towards you to tighten it then repeat again until you get it tight.

Snap-on makes one that's a thin wall box end offset wrench with a long handle for better leverage in tight situations. It's the one I have and works great. I have no trouble getting to that bolt or the one behind it from up top and no need to drop anything (starter and y-pipes that is).
