Is there any real difference in those two cams other than the price? The Hotcam is cheaper. (Cams only) With the Hotcam and 1.6 rockers as you know the lift is .525 .525 and with the Comp Cam 502 i think its .528.536--Both are in the 218/224 duration range. Which one has the bigger lope, the the higher lift cam CC-502. Is it the lift that makes the car lope more? They say the CC-502 is the biggest cam you can get on a stock TC. I was just wanting to upgrade my CC-501 cam thats a 212/218 duration and use those same springs that were changed out during that swap. Any help would be appreciated Dwayne

 

I ran the 218-224 before i did my heads. Combination motorsports told me this cam makes about the same peak HP as the hotcam, but makes 10-15 more everywhere else.

I like the cam a lot, great for an everday driver, not much lope to it, but you can tell it isnt stock if you know LT1s.

 

I have the CC-502. It's a nice cam. It pulls hard to about 6000ish according to my buttometer. I just wish i could fix everything wrong with my car so i could get some real times with it. I'm shooting for high 12's on it, which shouldnt be too hard once i get my ignition miss sorted out.

And I'm on 1.5:1 rockers.

 

Thanks Sounds like i might be spending a little more for the CC-502-I just hope the springs they used for my CC-501 will hold up. Cam change only is planned. Thanks for your replies --Dwayne

 

You may not be very happy with the power gains from switching to that slightly larger cam. Some awesome flowing heads would really help you out though!

 

Heads may be out of my wife's alotted income tax money, im just really hoping my springs are going to be ok, since the CC-501 and 502 arent to far off on the lift---Thanks Dwayne

 

By all means, move up to a bigger cam and at least have the stock heads ported to take better advantage of your next one...But make sure to get a bigger torque converter than the crappy stock one you have...A nice 2800-3200 stall would do WONDERS for your car at the track on some Nitto DR's and actually work quite well with the cam you already have...Suit yourself, but you'd gain a lot more with the upgraded TC/tire combo first than just swapping to a slightly bigger cam over what you already have...

BTW, a Precision Industries Vigilante 2800 (truly stalls to around 3100-3200ish; its actually underrated ) is a great street converter than also will easily gain you 5 tenths in the full 1/4 on Nitto's...

Thanks, once upon a time ago before i got my cam (CC-501), i was told from this site to get and i would love a 2800 Yank stall-when i pick my car up i knew i had made a huge mistake for me--three months later i got my stock tc-thats why i actually got a smaller cam to start with-afraid it would turn out like that 2800 stall, now i wish i had gone no bigger than the 218/224 at the beginning. I read the CC-502 is the biggest cam you can get on a stock TC--Thanks for your help Dwayne

 

What LSA is the 502 at? The hotcam is on a 112 and it is pretty lopey. A lot of the lope comes from that valve overlap.

 

I have the HotCam, and I love how much of a diffrence it makes from the stock cam. I am not sure how the CC-502 would really do agaist it, but I tell you what the HotCam is sure worth the money!! I would recommend it to anyone witha LT1!!! Has AWESOME POWER starting at 2,800-6,500 rpm range!!! And dropped my car into the 12's!

 

I like the idea that someone else put out about getting a tc and tires. Also arieso what times are you running in your car? I am looking at buying a car that is almost exactly the same as yours. You can pm it to me so we don't jack this thread. Thanks.

 

What about the GM 846 cam... its a 222/230 .509/529 112 is i remember right. Its a good little cam.

 

May I ask what exactly you did not like about the Yank 2800 stall over your stock one? Was it how it felt driving around town? Louder exhaust due to the higher revving?

You do realize you're leaving a LOT on the table by sticking with your stock stall (especially since you already have an aftermarket cam in the car)? Sure you can get away with the CC502 using the stock stall, but it just doesn't make much sense from a performance to cost ratio to upgrade the cam (again) and heads while keeping the stock stall due to you already having the CC501 in the car. Bigger cams really benefit from bigger stalls in automatics...That's just the nature of a SB V8 attached to an auto tranny (if you want better all-around performance that is). If you're dead set on not upgrading your stock stall, then at least put some 3.73 or 4.10 gears in the car which will help a little over your stock 3.23's...

Yeah you hit most of the points i didnt like--I really had no one here that i knew who had a higher stall--When i got my stock tc back, i felt like i got 50hp back--my gas mileage suffered of course around town---And on this Yank( or i guess any of them), i heard if you drop down around 55 it would kick out of lock up. It was crazy to be driving then all of a sudden my car would drop into a lower gear and whine way up, RPM gauge would shoot up--Exhaust note was higher--No more stalls for me, thats why im hovering around the 218/224 duration range--As i said earlier i would have gone bigger at the start, but was chicken the Hotcam or CC-502 would be another 2800 stall nightmare for me-- Thanks for your input--Dwayne
