hotcam kit with cc305cam

well i was looking around at prices and it seems the lt4 hotcam kit bundles everything together really cheap. would it be a good idea to try and find the hotcam kit minus the cam and get a 305 instead? maybe im just looking in the wrong places but if i try to peice it all together with the same stuff the hotcam kit comes with, with the cc305 it ends up way more expensive

youll see more gains on stock heads with the 305. i'd also step up the springs since the LT4 springs are barely enough for the hotcam itself.

ive heard otherwise about the lt4 springs but ill look into that. the 305 isnt THAT much of a step up from the hotcam but i think itll suit my needs

Re: hotcam kit with cc305cam

the LT4 springs that come with the kit are good to .525" lift. lift with the 305 would be .544" at he valve with 1.6 rockers.

LT4 springs won't be good enough for the cc305 with 1.6's

This is correct. You will want to upgrade the spring.

ex-612's from cmotorsports that are good to .600" or the Isky's good to .600". The 612's are ~$110 for springs, locks and retainers and im not sure on the price of the Isky's. Crane also makes a spring thats good to .600"

Re: hotcam kit with cc305cam

Do alot of searches for the 305 and you'll find some awesome posts of information. I'm doing the 305 as well and I called combonationsports and thunderracing and they are a big help of pointing you in the right direction. If you wanna see my shopping list I did for my car, let me know. I picked the 305 because I want more power than the Hotcam but I also want to pass smog so I'll be getting a good tune from Madwolf or pcmforless. "dmoor88, hit it on the nose with the spring kit and combonationmotorsports pretty much has everything you need. Good luck!

A hot cam kit without the hotcam?

Just get a set of Crane gold 1.6 R/Rs and the CC 305 with a decent set of springs. The LT4 springs are ok for the HC but thats about it.

yeah Ive seen a few used 305's floating arounf the For Sale section. Pick up one of those and a set of used 1.6 rockers, NSA or SA, either would work. Then contact cmotorsports concerning the springs.

I would run something else besides the 612's. They are only a single spring, dual springs like the 987 are much better at stablizing the valve movements.

Sure, if he wants to pull the heads to have the seats machined. With the lift he'll be seeing, <.550", Im pretty sure he'd be safe with the 612's.
