Hotcam install

I have recently got 2 bonus' from my work and with the extra money am thinking about doing a Hotcam kit. Before any of you start to dog the Hotcam telling me to get a 224/230 or cc305/306, I decided to go with the Hotcam because of the price. I am looking at something cheap and can make decent power. I know there are probably better cams out there, but the Hotcam just seems like what I want, the car is very streetable right now and I don't want to compromise that or spend a ton of money to put a cam in. I am also thinking about cleaning up the heads some and porting the intake of the car.

So, what pushrods, lifters, and guideplates should I use with the hotcam???

Also, since I plan and doing a mild port job on the heads and intake, should I get a bigger TB and injectors???

Thanks guys!!

Re: Hotcam install

When I put the hotcam kit in my car I used all my old stuff. Stock pushrods, lifters, no guideplates. I did use the matching springs that came in the kit. Mine ran fine until some bottom end trouble developed. I liked mine and it was a good deal for the price.

Re: Hotcam install

my car has over 100,000 miles on it. I was going to go ahead and replace the pushrods since I can get a good cheap set for about 40 bucks. The lifters are 240-300 for the set so I might go ahead and reuse the stock ones.

Any other input?

Re: Hotcam install

Stock throttle body will be fine. Porting the intake isn't necessary, but gasket matching everything is a good idea. If you have to choose, replace the lifters before the injectors. Much easier to change/upgrade the injectors at a later date, and the stockers can handle the cam.
New timing chain is a good idea. Again, a stock piece will be fine.
LT4 Knock Module and computer retune are a must.

If you can, new wires, at least opti cap and rotor, O2 sensors. All so much easier to do while it's apart anyway.

I'm happy with the Hotcam Kit, especially since I had the 4.10's put in, because it makes it's power at a bit higher RPM than the stock cam.

Already have new wires, o2 sensors. I could probably do a new opti. I will most likely go with the Coyles Double Roller since I have an electric WP.

Re: Hotcam install

i just picked up the cam last week off a buddy of mine with the spring kit. I have a lead on a spring set and pushrods from comp cams that ill be using instead for a bit more durability. I was looking at a cam for the sound quality... power is always good but i wanted the nice lopey idle. My next choice was the CC305 so i can stil retain emissions and streetability. My next thing to buy will be a set of cc magnum 1.6rr. Everything else im going to keep the originals with. Lifters and the timing chain should do for the use i give it. People that ive been having talks with say that there not nessessary and havent had any problems so far with a couple years of use under there belt

Let us know how your build goes dude and some audio clips to would be sweet. good luck!

Re: Hotcam install

the kit and gaskets are all you need
just make sure there isn't any wear on the lifters
stock TB and injectors will hold up fine
might be a good time for a Cap/rotor change tho

also i ported the intake a few weeks ago and it did seem to make a diffrence

i almost wish i got a CC306 but then again a lightly moded 98 ls1 only got me by 3 cars from a roll (with a failing opti)

Re: Hotcam install

I used the springs that came with the kit as well but started getting some float on the top end a few months after install. I had a set of heads/intake that I was getting worked along with a bigger cam so I didn't mind the float since I swapped over soon after.

Good cam....great for the price of the kit, that dropped me down to a 13.2 at 7000 DA (had TC, full exhaust, CAI and gears as well at the time).

Re: Hotcam install

My LT4 Hot cam was great! After the install I still got pretty good gas mileage. Cam makes good power and with the right bolt ons the car will scream!

Re: Hotcam install

Well last night I saw a 94 Z with just the hotcam and LT's beat a 00 T/A with FlowPac and Exhaust by about 2-3 cars. I couldn't believe my eyes. I thought he was spraying but afterwards we looked at his car and I even talked to the guy who put the cam in and that is all they did to it. I can't wait to get the cam!!! Especially with the juice!!

The hot cam is a great nitrous cam! I loved the juice on that cam.
