Hot motor slow starting

Recently my bone stock 1997 Z/28 has been running hotter than in the past, with the temp gauge at or just above the halfway point at extended traffic holdups. Running the heater does little to cool her down and is very effective at making me sweat. Not so much of a problem, but after a quick stop and shutdown on the way home from work with the car up to full temp, upon startup I hear a rapid, metallic click click and then the starter sounds weak but turns the motor over twice slowly and it lights off. I have checked the battery terminal connections at the battery and both look absolutly brand new. Battery electrolite level is normal in all cells. I will flush the cooling system this weekend, but what do you guys think it might be? A weak battery (the dash gauge displays a constant 13+ volt output from the alternator), starter binding up after the engine gets fully warmed up... Bad ground... Ideas welcomed and encouraged. Thanks guys.

usually as starters age their windings become weak and when they are heat soaked they aren't as strong as a new starter, I would look at the starter, have it tested
