Hot Cam and CC305 : what is needed ?

Hi,

i'm looking for a change in cam : CC305 or Hotcam

the questions are :

* through SUMMIT : does the "Hot Cam" Kit is complete ? or is there a need for others things like lifters, pushrods, etc .. ?
* Through SUMMIT too : if i take a CC305, what else does i have to take to make it works (1.6 RR , springs ? , retainers ? ..)

Thanks for reply

Hot cam is complete minus gaskets, lifters, and pushrods. Lifters are usually OK to reuse, but I'd pick up a set of hardened pushrods, they're cheap enough.

CC305 will require matching springs, rockers, retainers, and what I mentioned above. Well, rockers aren't required but it'd be dumb not to get them.

Stock Length is 7.2" so you know.

cause stock length for pre 86' SBC is longer. 7.6 I believe? I dont remember off the top of my head.

But the stock length pushrods are definatly 7.2"

Search for the Hot Cam Kit, you can prolly order the whole thing from a dealer cheap, way cheaper than going another route w/ all new parts.

Re: Hot Cam and CC305 : what is needed ?

I have made a simulation with "Engine Analyser Pro" software, as i use to do with bikes before.

The hot cam seems having a 5 hp better than CC305 under 3000 rpm, the CC305 is better all the way up for a 13 hp better at peack RPM.

What do you think ?

What cam also have best idle ?

Re: Hot Cam and CC305 : what is needed ?

The CC305 will idle the best. Hot Cams actually are pretty lopey for thier duration.

And I think the CC305 would be better. Who runs their cars under 5000RPMs if your gonna get on it. Besides, 5HP is nothing.

Look at the CC503 too. It makes better numbers than the hot cam will also. And is very streetable, and great for stock heads. I have a 5 page thread going about it now, I think the Title was Best Cam for Stock Heads or something like that. But at any rate some awesome numbers and times from the 503 as well so dont overlook everything.

RM125 :

i read your thread

from simulation and on my opinion best cams are : 1st = CC305 , 2nd = Hot cam ; 3rd = 503.

Anyway, they also looked very similar on simulation software.

I have also simulated them with RR1.5 RR 1.6 RR 1.7

It seems very small benefits from 1.7 RR.

What i picked up best would be CC305 with 1.6 RR

Re: Hot Cam and CC305 : what is needed ?

hum seems to be an agressive cam for a stock engine.

Anyway, I will do a simulation with it (but nearly all stock specs will be taken in the simulation) I don't think having nice numbers like this but I will post the results.

I will also post the results I had for the others cams.

Re: Hot Cam and CC305 : what is needed ?

i made the simulation.

your cam hp fall after peak HP. you don't have real better before. it peack a little better then fall at around 270 hp at 6500. The software also warn me that lifts are very high for the duration (i beleive valve train have to be really strong)

I have the graph in *.pdf format. I can send by e-mail or post here if someone explain me how to put a *.jpg on the post.
