horrible miss under 2.5k

just started when i left work today, started the car and let it idle for a few minutes like usual, when i started to pull away it started to miss real bad

no codes, checked wires for arcing and burns and they looked ok

its like flipping a switch as soon as it gets to 24-2500 it clears right up and runs perfect. does not do it at idle or very light load (just like an ignition miss) but i never seen an ignition miss go away like that. anyone have any ideas here, or seen this before

thanks in advance for any responses

mine started doing that - and got progressively worse and expanded to more rpm ranges. Still, when cold, it would be crisp and rev nice - until driving.

I just pulled the plugs - 6 were all fouled, and installed a Delteq. I guess my opti may have been crapping out and fouling the plugs?
It runs mint again with just new plugs - and the Delteq.

The opti from all i have been reading is the most obivious thing it could be. How many miles on the one in there? If like mine it has 100K+ might be worth a shot since it will go out sooner than later.

yeah it has 120k on it, but i dont understand how if it was the opti it would just go away after 2.5k

It's just a distribuor, cap and rotor with wear. They can do strange things - or just fail all together.
It may develop into more problems as mine did if you keep driving.

I had the same thing happen to my car, turns out a new egr valve and some seafoam was the fix.

With a laptop and a cable you can see if it is having knock.

Scan it to make sure all sensors are reading correctly. I had a pinched wire to the MAP sensor, and it wouldnt rev past 2500rpms period. Not exactly same problem but similar I guess. You could push past the "blip" if you revved hard, but it didnt seem to run good uptop that time. HTH

I just went through the exact same thing. Started all at one time. Finally got it on a scope and saw something wrong with cyl 5. pulled the opti and there was obvious arcing beween 5 and the coil post. New opti and runs like new. All I really needed was the cap & rotor but I replaced the whole thing for insurance.
