Hooker Or Jet Hot???

Here's the deal,I have Hooker Lt's and the coating did'nt turn out to good.My plan was to send them to Jet Hot and have them recoat them for $279.My cousin asked if give me $279 for my Hookers then I could get a new set of Jet hots for $560 which would only cost me $279 if I sold my Hookers. Are the Jet Hots as good or better than Hookers.I love my Hookers but if Jet Hot better then i'm going to jump on it.I heard things like Jet Hot was a pain to install and they hit the floorbaord.I have no problems with the Hookers except for the coating.
Tell me what you guys think.
Thanks,
JE

Re: Hooker Or Jet Hot???

Well Jethots and Hookers are just about the same. But if you drive your car daily and dont wash it all the time i wouldnt even get coated headers.
My jet hots are now all ruster and chipped because i didnt take care of them good enuf.

So if you dont mind spending the time keeping them clean then i would say go for it they are going to have just about the same fit as the hookers

Re: Hooker Or Jet Hot???

Check into Paul Berry's coating.. That's what's on my headers and it's holding up pretty well.

Re: Hooker Or Jet Hot???

I agree with toby360.I thought that the coating(if done properly)could withstand heat and such and not chip and rust.I also heard if they did chip and rust Jet Hot would usually recoat them for you.Seems like if they usually rust and chip Jet Hot would have their hands full.
I heard problems about Jet Hot hitting the floor boards under hard acceleration and that they were a lot harder to install.I was also wondering about the installation of spark plugs. To me,Hooker is a plus on all of the above, just bad coating.
Thanks again,
JE

Re: Hooker Or Jet Hot???

My Jet Hot headers are a nice set of headers but they are still rusty. I havent had them for a full year yet.

The point of the coating is to keep engine bay heat down. The primaries on my headers still look great and I think it does a good job of keeping heat out of the engine bay. The coolectors live a hard life on a daily driver and there is no way to avoid chips. Once the coating chips, rust will start. No amount of washing will stop it.

They would recoat my headers for "free" right now (within a year of purchase) but think about the hassle. I would have to spend an afternoon pulling them out, then pack them up and pay shipping there and back (probably over $100.00 for both ways). The whole time they are off, my car is inoperable (1-2 weeks). When I get them back I have to spend another afternoon putting them back in. Almost no one will put up with this hassle, so they rarely have to recoat headers.

I think they are still a fairly good buy, but don't expect them to stay looking like they come out of the box.

Re: Hooker Or Jet Hot???

I talked to a guy at Jet Hot(Todd) and he said that if my Hookers
were properly coated they should have not chipped. He said it's
normal for them to lose thier shine and be kinda dull but they should have not chipped. He said they may not have been prepped properly.I can understand the collector from debree and such though.
Anybody have a pic of their Jet Hots that I can see.
Thanks again,
JE

Re: Hooker Or Jet Hot???

i have jet hots, as well as a couple friends. none have rusted or chipped. the only probs are a couple scrapes on the bottom. as far as care goes i think they say wash them with hot water, once a year or so polish them with something. i dont remember but it comes with the headers. plug acess is good, ground clearance is good, has never hit the floor, i think that most people hit the pipe behind the collector where it goes under the crossmember my muffler shop bent the pipe down a little to keep of the cross... i did have the pass. side hit the k member, but easily fixed with the grinder.

i think youll find the workmanship great, the flanges are thick ect... youll be happy.

Any chance you could take several pictures of the chipped jet hots? Where are they chipped the most, and where are they not chipped at all? I'm very close to buying jet hots but would really like to know what sort of value to expect... My expectation were that Jet hots were of the highest quality but 1 year rusted and chipped doesnt really sound that great

I would take a picture of the rusty collectors, but my car is not at my house. The collectors are not solid rust yet. There is still coating on them, but I would say that 25% of the collector has rust on it. It is enough to make the car look bad if your are under it. The primaries all look great and are serving their purpose of keeping engine bay heat down. I did drive my car this winter so I'm sure that hurt them, but one winter should not cause this much rust.

I would buy the headers again, but I wish I had known what to expect. They are good quality (nice flanges etc) and I still think they are the best buy for the money.

Re: Hooker Or Jet Hot???

My hooker shorties and y-pipe are jet hot coated. Been like this for about 2 years, they are a lot duller now than they used to be but no rust or chipping yet - just a few scratches int he coating from me taking them out and putting them back in twice now. Luckily in AZ we don't really have problems with rust.
