Honing?
Honing?
I an LT1 that was purchased in 1999 from GM. The engine has @60K on it (may be less, may me more) I took the heads/intake/oil pan off it and was planning on building a 383 out of the shortblock. After doing tons-o-research I decided to stick with the stock bottom end since my power expectations will not exceed what it can handle, also I'm at school and can't afford to get all new components. The pistons are in great shape, the block has no real signs of wear, infact I can still see the original honing marks. The question is can I disassemble the engine, have it honed and use the stock pistons? I would assume I would need bigger rings or something. I've got a class coming up at school in a few months where I will be re-assembling the engine I decide to go this route, so I need to get going. Since the engine appears to be in great shape would any of you just run it without freshening her up?
If any of you suggest to just run it, I have one other small problem. From sitting, the engine has a very small amount of surface rust forming, I can pretty much rub it off, do you see any problems with this?
Side note, I have Iron heads. I will be able to clean these up in class a little, So i'm hoping to get them flowing @250 cfm, is this obtainable from just cleaning the ports a little, they flow 230 cfm stock.
Thanks for any input, Matt

Thanks for the help!!!
If i take note as to which cylinder each piston/rod came out of I should have no problems/balance issues..correct? Can I leave the rods/pistons together if all looks good?
