Honda ATF in 6 Speeds

Anyone notice if their low speed, low RPM lurch noise is gone? I recently changed my tranny fluid and used Honda ATF and I noticed it seemed to be gone?

You know that slow grown that the tranny lets out when you first take off under normal driving conditions.

So people never get that sound.
I'll have to switch to Honda ATF and give it a try.

The noise is still there, at least on my car.

Overall I'm not too crazy about the Honda ATF. Warm its pretty good but when its cold out (<50F) it shifts like a dump truck and I dont remember my M1 ATF doing that...

Problem is that we want fluids that do everything, work in extreme cold weather and in very hot weather using the same oil, so there is a trade off. I have found over the years to use fluid that works "best" in the situation the transmission will see the most operating time, in otherwords if you spend 5 minutes with the transmission shifting a little hard (when cold) and 3 hours of it shifting fine (when hot), I would go for that situation instead of it shifting ok when cold and just ok when hot. You will have to evaluate this for yourself. True, oils are getting better all the time, but there is always a tradeoff. Same for the 700R4/4L60E.

SO you're saying that that noise is normal, because mine makes that noise and it seems to get worse as its driven around. If I let the clutch out slow with the rpms like 1250 it doesn't do it, but like you said if you do it normally like at 800 or so it almost sounds like a clatter or a rattling...right? It sounds so bad and loud though, do they do that from new? Or does that develop over time?

Iv used both honda and M1....I like the M1 better....I was getting some whine with both so I put a couple of bottles of GM rear addative in there and no more whine....Im not recommending this because I dont know what long term effects it might have on the tranny, but hey, its quiter now.

my 95 Z had the same sound...the sound was a tad quieter after i changed the clutch, pilot bearing, and throw-out bearing. but it was definitely still audible.

btw...i've ridden in a few Z's w/ the T-56 and they almost all made the same sound...asked two GM service techs and they said the T-56 was overall a noisy tranny...no specific thing to make it go away.

The GM rear end additive is very good, as long as it does not interfere with the syncro blocking rings (slow shift, missed shift) it should work better.
