I stay away from NYC in particular. Have found that I don't belong there.

But there are some great guys on this forum from NY. They're Upstaters though, so that explains a lot of it.

Good luck with that book. Got a lot of really good porters into their first cylinder heads. Gotta start somewhere.

Yeah were a part of a dying breed up here, American muscle, everybodys going to rice burners lol, yeah upstate is way different from down here lol Theres a few fbodies around here lol one is my cousins 94 formula, an another is a camaro that a cop owns. We got a bunch of 3rd gen's also. But not many have nething done to them. We got one sweet 68 maro, i luv those things. I guess its a thing i grew up in a American car family, not an import yet Gm pretty much all the way. The kids around here cant tell the difference between a Camaro and a Firebird let alone waht a 1st gen camaro is , its sad. But wen i roll up the heads turn lol there rice burners dont make noise like teh z28 does haha

It's hard to say how...I finished mine and got them flowed 250/190 cfm @ 521/541 lift. Best is to visualize flow, smooth out everything it is best to take little bits than too much. Took me a solid 7 days 3hrs a day.

I just cleaned mine up today...didn't do too much, I opened up the throats, narrowed the guides, raised the roof on the intakes, lowered the floor slightly on the exhausts, narrowed the pushrod pinch, and did some cleanup. They aren't beauties but should flow a good 20-25 cfm more than stock...good enough until I can build another 383

Yea NYC isn't filled with too many fbodies. You see a lot of 6 cylinders around but not too many 8s. There are more ricers and mustangs. You should check out www.lifba.com it's a really nice group out in long island. I drive over there from Queens to meet with them they're really helpful and fun to meet up with. Good luck with your new ride. How do the 4.11s feel in the auto? I was going to go with the 3.73s but i had a good deal on a complete rear with 4.11s

Good example of WHY Vizard's book should be read. Don't know many guys who want to make the exhaust short side radius tighter. Not conducive to a good high flow exhaust port. Read Vizard's book before tackilng your next set.

Re: "Home" porting guys please help?

Hmm, there are a lot of sbc heads out there and there's always a little variation from one casting to another I'm sure. Anyone who has worked on newer (improved) sbc cylinder heads (that's a long list) will also know how to get the most from LTx heads. They're very similar to the new performance castings, especially the Vortec heads and those are getting a lot of attention from porters these days... great budget heads!

Re: "Home" porting guys please help?

i ve home ported alot for friends, but when it comes to my own i went alittle over board, see i had tin can heads, but the castings where shifted so on one port i blew a small hole threw, so i said screw it and removed all the walls on the pushrod side, and used a expoxy putty to form my new and improved walls. this particular set took me about 32hrs. port jobs usually dont take long it just depends on the tools you have. bowl work is your friend.

Re: "Home" porting guys please help?

Mindgame, I didn't lower the exhaust floor but just a tiny bit, and I didn't touch the short side. I just had to lower it slightly to clean up alot of roughness in the casting. Most of the work I did was around the guide and polishing the port. Made it sound like I hogged it out
