highest rpm on stock bottom end.
highest rpm on stock bottom end.
i was wandering who is turning the most rpms on there stock botttom end and how many miles it has on it. i very rarley spin past 5500 due to blowing 2 alternators at higher rpm.
Re: highest rpm on stock bottom end.
But for how long have you guys done this? Its hard to belive that you can spin the stock assembly that high every time you make a pass down the track. I'm not saying you can't do it. I'm saying what is hmmmm "safe" and will get my many passes out of the car. I'm sure i could spin it to 7300, but a few times with that and i'm bound to **** up a bearing or throw a rod. Don't ya think?
Re: highest rpm on stock bottom end.
Everytime it hit the track for a year. The valve springs comp cams kept sending me would not work at that rpm (even though they said so) and eventually took out a piston by dropping a valve. I may want to add that this was a stock parts bottom end. Studs were used and everything was balanced properly.

Re: highest rpm on stock bottom end.
The LT1 is a very well put together motor, people do not give it enough credit they are stuck thinking about the crap GM built in the 70s and 80s. There are a COUPLE b-bodies running boost plus spray on stock rods/crank, one with stock pistons too the other with forged, granted I am sure those setups do not run over 6500 but it still makes a point about the unexpected strength of our stock components. The one car dynoed around 630hp/690tq to the wheels with 14psi and a rich 100shot
Re: highest rpm on stock bottom end.
GM847 here on stock heads - I shift at 6500. I MIGHT take it to 6800 once, I need to get my tach calibrated a bit better to see if it makes a difference at the track.
