Hey 383 peps gimme some luv

K guys, looks like I'm gonna go with a 383 on my rebuilt motor for my 97Z. I want a street car, not to ronchy but getting about 375 horses. A local shop here said he'll do it and do the clearance just the short block for 2500 to 3K. Then I know I will need a cam but will I need heads? Rockers? What about the small stuff. Gimme some clues all.

Thanks.....S.J.S.

97z A4 (SPUN BEARING), K&N Cold Air, Flowmaster Cat-Back, March pulleys, MAF, Airfooil, TB bypass, Eibach Pro Kit, and Big as hell 315's on back

um...400fwhp with 383 cubic inches can easily be achieved with long tubes, a cold air intake and an LT4 hot cam kit

You wont need heads but I would definately do some porting on them. It will help alot! Maybe even a set of roller tip 1.6 rockers depending on cam you are selecting. Better think about a TB and some bigger injectors, plus the computer being reprogrammed. I just Built a 383 with LT4 heads ported and polished. I am running 36 lbs injectors with custom programming.

Hes kinda pricy , I just built a 383 shortblock with scat cast steel crank, scat H-beam rods, KB pistons and all the machine work for 1700$ out the door. I bought a new cam as well so add 239$ and I'm using my previous heads but I cleaned them up a bit (190cc AFRs). A felpro gasket set from O' Reillys is less than 200 $. If youre doing the Labor yourself its well below 2500$. (computer reprogram was free because PCMforless update.)

Hey Perry when you say previous heads, do you mean stock heads or aftermarket ones you had already? What about TB, rockers and headers?

I already had the AFR 190cc heads previously on the 350. I ported them a little and then had a different valvejob put on them (30 deg top cut). I already had 1.6 comp steel RR, and a ported 52mm t/b. I am using the headers as well 1 3/4 Hooker LTs with a mufflex y, into a 3 inch flowmaster. I should be able to start the new motor next week, I just have to finish detailing everything and such.

I have a Scat 9000 crank
Eagle H rods
SRP pistons
Total seal rings
XE 230/236 cam
comp R-lifters
fastchip tuning
ported stock heads.

On a car with a 3200 high stall I made 375rwhp. With a T56 you can expect to make 400rwhp.

I bought the crank, rods, and bearings from Northern auto parts. I bought the pistons from Summit, and the heads from North Dallas Exports (www.strokermotor.com)

I got all my parts from www.nu-tekmotorsports.com

Email Nick there and tell him Gripenfelter sent you when you're ready to buy. He's very helpful and will walk you through it.
