hesitating after cam installed...

My car is driving me nuts! Its a 97 that I has just recently had the following work done... hotcam kit, lt headers, pcm repro, new plugs/wires, and the usual other bolt-ons. My car was hesitating and "random misfiring" quite a bit and I got my computer reprogrammed this week and now its doing it worse!! It acts up when I'm on it full throttle and when I'm not, but especially around 1800 RPM. I just bought a 3200 stall vigi, which was supposed to put me into the 12's, but no stall out there is going to get my misfiring fbod into the 12's until I solve this situation. Someone give me some advice and save me some money so I can go through with this stall converter and get this beast on the road. Who knows what kind of emotional trama I will go through if I lose to 2 liter import this week! My plugs are fine and I have no burnt wires. Someone told me I might want to check out my MAF and maybe clean it...? Could this be that simple? Probably not. If you have any clue what might be going on .. PLEASE HELP!!!

Is it a blatent hesitation miss, or sttttttutttering almost like your hitting a rev limiter?

Well, having just done headers,I would check your wires real closely.Coil, ignittion module and opti.odds are one od them is the problem.Just have to figure which one.

i put a new msd box in it about 4 months ago and new coil last month. The hesitating is more subtle than hitting the rev limiter, but very noticeable. it misses noticeably 3-4 times, then pulls nice for a sec... then starts at it again as I climb the RPM's. It teases a little bit me each time i get on it and shows me just how much power I'm going to have once I get this figured out, but that feeling only lasts for a split second...

but a burnt wire wouldn't cause all 8 cylinders to "random misfire" like the computer is reading would it....?

Did you pull the MAP to get to your intake manifold bolt? If so check your MAP sensor grommet (orange seal).

If you are having a bad hesitation which basically makes the car buck, you would more than likely get an SES (blinking) if it was a burnt plug wire(s). However, you say you don't have any burnt wires, but have you checked your wires very closely or just eyeballed it? Unless your wires have been routed over the valve covers, it is more likely that your wires will get burned unless your installer went out of his way to route them to where they would never get burned (rare when it isn't you doing the work).

but a burnt wire wouldn't cause all 8 cylinders to "random misfire" like the computer is reading would it....?
How do you know all 8 cylinders are missfiring? Did you scan it or have someone scan the codes or did someone just tell you that you have a missfire?

Someone told me I might want to check out my MAF and maybe clean it...?
Just unplug the MAF to see if your car runs better, if it does, your MAF is bad - buy a new one. To clean it just use a q-tip and some isopropyl rubbing alcohol on the wires and the sensors that are attached to them - let dry and reinstall.

Not only check your wires, but check to make sure they are on the right cylinders!

Don't laugh too hard, it happens.. especially when someone else works on the car..

It's on the passenger side ofthe intake manifold on top just behind the throttle body. It has a wireing harness that plugs upwards into it. There are two 8mm (i think) bolts holding it down, shouldn't be too hard to find, i'm looking for a picture for you though.
