Helping or hurting air flow.
Helping or hurting air flow.
When I first bought my Z there wasn't alot of aftermarket parts for it. One of the first things I changed was the plastic piece that runs from the stock air box to the maf. I think the new one was called a slicktube. That and a K&N airfilter. Last summer I added a scoop (dryer vent) to the splash panel and ran some 4 inch hot water venting from the scoop to the opening of the air box.
This is a totally sealed system. It does add 2 more 90 degree bends tho and the venting has ridges. Do you think this is helping or should I get a regular CAI.

prettymuch anything will be better than the stock air box, i say you will be fine, but i would go for the cai, if u have a couple bucks around. i bought my LPE Cai for $159. i love it, and i know it is done right. hell, you could probably pick up a nice used one for 60 dollars or so. you wont regret it.

Like 9TransAM4 said most things are better than stock, there will always be that argument on where to get the coldest air from, and how much of it may be heat soaked. I just have my airbox cut wide open. The only true test would to do a before and after on a dyno. I wouldnt worry about it unless your seriously gonna race the car, i'm sure your set up beats the stock. the only thing i see as posing a minor problem is that the dyer tubing can heat up and soak the air inside with heat.
heres a pic of what i did on my car,
