Help! what oil pump drive gear to use

since my engine has been built i was using the stock oil pump drive gear, ive had the cam for 3 years now its a le2, it sheered 4 teeth on the dyno(lucky the tuner caught it in time) but it looks like its been wearing for a long time, is there supposed to be up and down play with the gear/shaft assembly? ive got aprox 10000 miles on this engine too, i also have a melling high volume oil pump,

which gear should i be using, i just hope the cam is ok.

That all depends on what gear is on the cam. Whats gear is on the cam? do a search for oil pump drive gears and you will find tons of info out there on what gear to use.

You may just have to plan on changing it every so often. HV pumps put more strain on the gear. You might consider a lighter oil to relieve some of the stress.

Bronze gears are soft and they will eat up themselves before the cam gear. But with the wrong combo you will go thru a bronze gear in 100 miles... find out what gear is on the cam then you can make a choice as to what gear to use on the drive. As shoebox said HV pumps add some stress and are harder on them.

use the polymer gear from Comp we used it when my friend got a billet cam and it would eat the gears, iron or brass, especially the brass had it on the street for 3 years now no problems. Measure the diameter so you get the right one we had to machine a bushing for ours Art

It will eat the bronze gear too.

Only a matter of time. Just keep it in the back of your mind that you need to watch your oil and check the gear every so often.
