Angry HELP!! (TPS-Car not shifting)

I unplugged my TPS sensor while the engine was running and of course a SES light came on. Now I can't get rid of it, and the car won't shift out of third gear. I've even replaced the TPS and can't get the SES light to go off. And yes I've reset the computer..
I don't have any way to check codes, since I don't have a scanner..

any suggestions?? Please HELP!!!

I have a 95 Z28..

Thanks!

Start by checking all your fuses. The pcm is trying to tell you what is wrong, but without a scanner you can't hear it. Bottom line is to get a scanner or get it scanned to see what is wrong. By the time you guess and waste money on stuff that is not the problem, you could have bought a scanner.

The pcm uses throttle % and speed to determine shift timing, so the TPS signal is vital.

oh yeah, and I checked for 5v at the TPS and it's there...it also changes as the throttle moves...
of course the code could be something entriely different, so who knows :-)
kinda shotting in the dark!

I was gonna have Autozone scan my car for the code, but they "didn't have time" so I'll try later I suppose...

and thanks for the replies shoebox!

ok, got the car to shift properly....so that is no longer a problem. I also had the car scanned...I'm getting a code 48 (MAF)
Is there anyway to check the MAF?
Could the MAF be causing the surging/stumbling problem I'm having at accelration (even before the SES light was on)
