Help Splayed Mains
Help Splayed Mains
Alright, so i have a set of miloden splayed mains but they require you to mill the register in the block. This has cause a big problem for me. No shop anywhere near me will do this. They said they prefer not to do that work, even a few big name shops in VA. Ok, so can i run the eagle caps with arp bolts and that way i will not have to machine the registers? Or is there another main cap that is better to use w/o machining the registers? thanks
Re: Help Splayed Mains
Where are you located?
I knew that I wanted to convert my block to 4 bolt mains this time around, so I chose a machine shop and asked them about it. I'm dealing with RPM (Revolutionary Performance and Machine) who are advertisers on here I think. Not sure what brand it is, but they have caps that they sell in a package type deal- IE you get the caps, line boring, new bolt holes drilled and tapped and ARP studs for a certain price. You might want to look them up and give them a call or email to see what brand they use.

Well then get in touch with who I posted the name of, and ask them what they use. Apparently whatever brand it is, you just need to drill and tap new holes for the outter bolts, and line bore the mains.
I've never heard anything about milling the register in the block. What exactly do you have to do? I'm really not familliar with any other machining that you could do in that area of the block other than clearancing, line boring and drilling/tapping. If "milling the register" = "line boring" and a shop told me they'd rather not do that type of work I'd certainly not deal with them, as that's a fairly common process in the buildup of a high performance engine.

Re: Help Splayed Mains
no milling the register means this...your cap has a step in it and that step needs to sit down in the block. On miloden caps, this step is not sitting in the block with out milling the step in the block wider to fit the step in the caps
