check for a rusted e-brake cable, or one that is otherwise kinked or bound up on something.

hope it helps a little, not sure if that's your prob. or not, but it happened to my mom's cavalier once, cable left pulled for a while and rusted stuck, I've also heard of kinked ebrake cables. Well, hope you get it sorted out, keep us posted.

It is just a mechanical lever that is pulled by the cable. The result is virtually the same as when you press on the brake pedal, but it just does not use the hydraulics.

so you are saying that *both* rear calipers have seized at the exact same time? Time to go buy a lottery ticket.
