Help, problem with LT4 valve covers

Well I just got my rocker arms adjusted and went to put my new LT4 composite valve covers on and the stud that screws into the head is a different size than the screws that are on the stock valve covers. Anyone else have this problem? I am going to have to either tap the hole in the heads bigger or tap the studs down to the smaller size. I don't really want to tap the heads because I don't feel like having a bunch of aluminum shavings in my engine.

If you have the GM part for the studs, I can't see how they don't fit. They should be the same thread as the metal valve cover bolts.

I have the right parts. The stud is part # 10108674 and I have 8 of them but they will not screw into the head. Too big. WTF?

Awkward... they are the same size. Can you not use the old ones?

There are no old ones if he was using the regular cover bolts before.

I have never heard of that before.

It sounds like he bought new LT4 valve covers and new bolts for them. There are the same ones used for the LT1 cover or will those not work with the LT4 cover?

Re: Help, problem with LT4 valve covers

are you trying to screw the wrong end into the head?

The LT4 covers use a stud and a nut that replaces the normal bolt. They are completely different.

Isn't that funny? You learn something everyday.... LOL Anyway maybe he has the damn thing upside down if one side screws into the head and the other pokes through the cover. One will more than likely be bigger then the other.

Re: Help, problem with LT4 valve covers

So, will the studs used on the LT4 covers not go into the LT1 heads? those should be the same exact heads, just ported differently.

There is only one end that has male threads and they should be the same thread as the stock bolt. I'm using them (so are a lot of people). This is the first problem like this I have heard.

Re: Help, problem with LT4 valve covers

Yes there is only one way that they go in and they won't go in. I can take the original bolt and screw it in and out of the head all day long but the stud is just too big. After tearing the engine down to the short block and putting it all back together, I think I can figure this small bs out. I'll just have the studs turned down to the right size I guess.

I just installed some last week. Same part number as yours and they worked fine.

Re: Help, problem with LT4 valve covers

Well I figured it out. I had 8 of the studs and about 4 of them were too big. They weren't any kind of standard or metric size. They were just a little too big and I had to turn them down with a die to the proper size. I guess the quality control on these things stink. Probably made in Mexico or something.
