Help problem with EGR valve
Help problem with EGR valve
first my EGR was malfunction (thats what the dealer told me) so I bought a new one 4 months ago 250 buck...those things are not cheap for a (94 Camaro). it worked fine until I got the check engine light and I used a snap-on scanner and it said it was the EGR valve. I thought it couldnt be because its brand new so I cleared the codes. and now the engine light is on again. I'm afraid its the EGR valve again. if it is can there be a possibility that other sensors like the 02 sensor can be malfunctioning and affecting the EGR valve or something?. theres no way a 4 months old EGR valve would just malfunction while a 10 years old EGR valve lasted that long. any suggestion is open to me.
Re: Help problem with EGR valve
First I would have bought a low mileage one from here for about $15. Second whats the code number? Also create a signature with your mods in it so we can better evaluate your situation.

Re: Help problem with EGR valve
An EGR valve is less than $85, even at dealer retail (half that at wholesale). I guess if they put it on for you, they charged a lot of labor. Man, $250 seems excessive. Provide your mods as suggested.
i don't mean to jump in on someones else form but my car has the same problem except i can still rev although there is a nasty rattling sound coming from the undercarrige and sometime it sounds like i have a bad leak from my piping. i have 4 codes that come up when i pull them egr malf, cats in 1 and 2 bank, manufactor control(some thing like that),i forgot the other one when your driving the car never runs hot you let it sit and the car goes crazy never to 260 but as close as it can get then sometimes the car does not run hot or get even close. according to the dealer he replaced the cats the 02 sensor also when i turn off the ses light i can drive on the street for ever but as soon as i get on the freeway the ses light pops on help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

O2s shouldn't bother the EGR, but I don't have any words of wisdom on troubleshooting an electronic EGR valve. Maybe you have some wiring or electrical connection issues. I would look at those physical things first.

(you "didn't mean to", but you did) I recommend you start a thread, so that you may get some input from everyone. You only hurt yourself posting on this thread, because only people that read this thread title will come in to read. You then present another set of problems is. A lot of people will ignore thread hijackers (I normally do). It is also unfair to the original thread poster.
Re: Help problem with EGR valve
well isnt fix but I think it might be a faulty wiring in the sytem. well as my last resort I erased the codes in the ECU (pulled the fuse out of the ECU). if the pattern is correct the check engine light will not come on again within 2 or 3 weeks. but thank you for those who helped me.
