Help please..

I am 1/2 way done with my cam install and I bought the GM extreme duty timing set to replace the stock one, I was wondering if I had to change the water pump drive gear from the stock one to the one that came with the set? They look the same and the stock one doesnt show visible wear.

I converted to an electric wp a long time ago so the only purpose that the wp drive shaft serves is to plug up the hole in the timing cover.

Thanks for any help!

it isn't that terribly hard to do, so why not do it?

How do you get it out of the block? I took of the retaining plate off and it was just stuck in there like it was pressed in the block. Of course the Haynes manual doesnt tell me how to do it nor does it even acknowledge the part in the book.

Someone please tell me if it is ok to run the GM extreme duty timing set with the stock wp gear, I just read that you need a special tool to remove it!

I used a flathead screwdriver to pry out the water pump drive gear . Had to put some muscle behind it.
