Question help, are platinum plugs junk?

So the camaro starts getting hard to start in the mornings, and the performance has gone to crap over the miles since the last tune up (less than 5,000 miles-acted geat after replacing routine stuff) Now a quick inspection of the AC delco platinum spark plugs they look burned up. Stock ign system and the little platinum tip look like its burned off. the pocelain is blackened for the first 2 or 3 mm like its burned (and no it does not look like carbon or oil fouling) Simply put the metal tip seeems to be burned down into the porcelain.
Is this normal for these AC plugs? does this indicate a more severe problem?
I really dont want to put 52 dollars into a set of Bosch platinums for nothing, especially if this is my imagination, or theres a better option (also its not the best time of year financialy to throw money at the daily beater for no reason)

UPDATE
I went and replaced them with NGK TR55s today, and the ones that I pulled out that were toasted were BOSCH, not AC Delco.
Thanks for advice everyone

I like my NGK TR55 plugs just fine. $20 shipped is fine by me. Its been over 3500 miles and they're just great. Even if they do crap out on me I wouldnt care. $20 and 45 min later I'll have new plugs in.

HAHA..45 minutes is pretty good, my last change took me a 12 pack, after removing the EGR tubes and A.I.R. tubes and all that I might be able to get it under an hour this time though. Well see.
but where did you order the NGKs from?
are tr55s what I need to put in there then?

Newbiewar...whats wrong with the boschs? (Ive always just used champion for my mopars and autolite with the fords, and let the MSD 6-AL make up the difference)

I believe that the LT1 came with platinum plugs, I have always used AC Delcos with no problems.

Looking in the back of my Haynes manual, what you described looks the the picture for preignition or detonation if that helps at all.

Well I went looking at those pics too, but the damage on those plugs in the pics are so much more severe than mine its hard to compare them. Mine arent nearly that bad. the tiny little metal tip just look burned or worn down into the porcelain.
My digital cam takes really crappy pics, but Ill see if I can get one to come out tomorrow.

used a bunch and the stock Delco Platinum plugs lasted the longest. I think I'll go back to them next.

My car runs better with the AC delco plats instead of the champions i had in before. If u can afford it, go for the GM plats. BTW, they DO last 100k or so, so it is worth it in the long run.

Ok thanks for all the input everyone.

I guess the plan is to ditch the ACs and try the NGK TR55s. I guess could let yall know how it works out after my next oil chage.

The OEMs should have lasted at least 50K. If the plucks are shot, you may have other problems. Were they gapped correctly, ie. .050 N/A?

I'd stay away from the Bosch 4s. If you don't want to change often, I'd suggest going with the NGK Plats or Iradiums. The Coppers, though better conducting and cheaper shouldn't last nearly as long as the plats. JMHO

I'm running the AC Rapid Fires, I was told they was one of the best you could go with for our application.

Cool

My AC's last about 3000 miles till the plats blow away (into the cat I guess.)Tried them three times,a real piece of work.Still got them laying around somewhere in the garage.Really makes you wonder where these platinum puks go to.Hope this helps.
